I broke all these rules at one time or another when I was younger. Except for sandals WITH SOCKS, eww. I learned quick because the girls I dated didn't hide their disgust, it shown on their faces.

I wouldn't go so far as saying, "Clothes Make the man" as that's blanket statement... but they do friggin' matter, especially on a first date.. hell everything will be micro-scrutinized on a first date.. you might as well get the fashion part right :)

Quick and handy list post, Brenna!

Guys should care though and if they don't it really speaks volumes about them. I'm not a big fashion person though because of my exposure to both proper style and couture, I notice things I haven't before. In my office, I work with a lot of geeks. They are usually dressed in the dullest things possible. When I started to care more about what I wear, I get usually at least one "Where are you going for an interview".

My larger problem now, other than finding proper footware for my long walks to and around work, is that what I see for men in North America is generally "dull". Looking at such stores as simple as J. Crew and Paris department store Galleries Lafayette, what we get in Toronto especially is mostly cheaply made retail chain dullness.

As much I enjoyed reading your entry, I really must disagree with the pea coat comment. Having a designer pea coat or one that is tailored properly is heads above some of the uninspired outwear I've seen men wear lately. I have a dark blue pea coast from Hugo Boss that I love. Mind you, I also find in warmer weather I tend to wear vintage couture ... See Moresuit jackets, tailored t-shirt and dark blue or black jeans with either darker dress shoes or faux running shoes.

I think with men's jeans the problem currently is that the washes and cut don't seem to flatter most men. Being someone who isn't exactly skinny, if I wear certain cuts of jeans they make me look horrible. I recently got a pair from Old Navy because they were exactly like the Gap/Banana Republic ones but cheaper.

Also, I have been finding that the cut of the semi-popular Khaki no matter who makes them, is designed for a person who is super skinny. Why doesn't someone make a nice tapered khaki that doesn't look/feel cheap and isn't $200?

I was actually also going through several of the shops along Yorkville and have been tempted to get a pair of car shoes. As much as boat shoes are on trend right now they look a bit ugly. Also since I walk so much (30 minutes each way to work) it's hard to justify spending lots of money on nice dress shoes to walk around in when I know I can wear them out in 3 months.

Thanks for reading :)
