Fun Summer Reads

My vacation in Cuba at the beginning of this month presented itself as the perfect opportunity to indulge in some light, fun, summer reading.

I finished reading Kelly Cutrone’s If You Have to Cry Go Outside during the flight. I was pleasantly surprised with this one, as I honestly picked up a copy not expecting much. I thought it would be a bunch of impersonal business-type of tips and tricks we’ve all heard a hundred times before. Instead I found myself reading about this (and I might add quite remarkable) woman’s journey from a homeless unqualified nobody to a kick-ass NYC entrepreneur. And it’s not all just career talk, Kelly also writes about her parents, daughter, ex husbands, friends, enemies, lovers…

The perfect book to read while lounging on the beach is Michael Tonello’s Bringing Home the Birkin. Those who love travel will enjoy this memoir that takes its readers to most exclusive shopping destinations and dining places in Europe, with focus on Spain, France and Italy. This is a true story about a makeup artist who became one of the world’s biggest Hermes (specifically Birkin bag) resellers. Don’t pick this up looking for a career advice, this guy had crazy luck and more guts than anyone I know. He literally did what they always tell us to do, he followed his dreams, and voila, he made it. Actually, that could be a valid career advice :)

Me, reading Bringing Home the Birkin in Cuba

Happy reading!
