Fun Summer Reads

My vacation in Cuba at the beginning of this month presented itself as the perfect opportunity to indulge in some light, fun, summer reading.

I finished reading Kelly Cutrone’s If You Have to Cry Go Outside during the flight. I was pleasantly surprised with this one, as I honestly picked up a copy not expecting much. I thought it would be a bunch of impersonal business-type of tips and tricks we’ve all heard a hundred times before. Instead I found myself reading about this (and I might add quite remarkable) woman’s journey from a homeless unqualified nobody to a kick-ass NYC entrepreneur. And it’s not all just career talk, Kelly also writes about her parents, daughter, ex husbands, friends, enemies, lovers…

The perfect book to read while lounging on the beach is Michael Tonello’s Bringing Home the Birkin. Those who love travel will enjoy this memoir that takes its readers to most exclusive shopping destinations and dining places in Europe, with focus on Spain, France and Italy. This is a true story about a makeup artist who became one of the world’s biggest Hermes (specifically Birkin bag) resellers. Don’t pick this up looking for a career advice, this guy had crazy luck and more guts than anyone I know. He literally did what they always tell us to do, he followed his dreams, and voila, he made it. Actually, that could be a valid career advice :)

Me, reading Bringing Home the Birkin in Cuba

Happy reading!

Meet Angela Y. Martin -  talented fashion and beauty photographer whose work has been featured in FASHION Magazine and Flare Magazine, just to name a few.

I dropped by Angela’s studio last Saturday to check out the photoshoot for the 125 Magazine’s September issue.

Gorgeous Ford model, Jeannine Smith, and the makeup artist Vanessa Melanson.

Hair stylist: Mike Baronowski from Greg May Hair Architects (Yorkville)

Mike was kind enough to style my hair as well! Thanks Mike :)

Artist Cheryl Voisine preparing the backdrop.

… a few finishing touches…

Stylist Claudia Da Ponte brought all the clothes for the shoot.

All set!

If you have to cry, go outside

Event: Kelly Cutrone’s book signing

Who: Kelly Cutrone, a fashion icon and the founder of the PR firm People’s Revolution. Also a star of MTV reality shows: The Hills, The City, True Life. Recently started her own show: Kell on Earth.

The book: If You Have to Cry, Go Outside

Where: Indigo, Eaton Centre

When: March 15th, 2010, 7pm

Hosted by: Jeanne Beker of Fashion Television

In real life Kelly appears to be nothing like what we see on TV – she was quite friendly.
She said she was aware of the image her show has created for her, and replied:

I’d rather seem like a bitch on TV and be nice in real life than the other way around“.

Jeanne, Kelly, me

I asked Kelly what her fave part of the book was. She said it’s the chapter where she talks about defining your own religion.

And of course, some fashionable folks who attended the event:

Have you read Kelly’s book, how did you like it?

LouLou Omits the Cover Story

cover-LouLou

Winter 2009-2010 cover

Celebrity Style Guide – What to Wear Now“, screams the front page of the winter 2009-2010 LouLou issue. I bought this magazine expecting to see something similar to my Blake Lively post. I flipped through the pages three times, carefully making sure I turn each leaf from the front cover to the back. Nothing. The celebrity style guide is completely M.I.A.!

Maybe that explains the special price of $2.99?

Tomorrow:

See how I stole Sienna Miller’s outfit!
