Thomas Sabo Fall Winter 2010

Mystery, adventure, romance and innocence are just a few of the themes Thomas Sabo sterling silver Fall/Winter 2010 collection encompasses.

My favourites:
key pendant with white syn. zirconia (code: TO229)
winged heart pendant with white syn. zirconia (TO227 and PE373)

I seemed to be drawn to the innocence display the most:

Thomas Sabo is famous for their charms.

I’m crazy about two-tone watches, and these burgundy/chocolate ones are just beautiful!

I admired the layout of the collection preview as much as the jewelry itself.

… and I walked out with a little something for me :)

My May Makeover

Greg May did my hair. Wow!

Greg has been styling Toronto’s elite for the past 20 years at his posh Yorkville salon. Born and raised in Muskoka, Greg tackled on several career paths before he became the hair architect  – police academy, martial arts, modeling for the Sears catalogue… just to name a few :) With his own hair product line, Mr. May has been featured in magazines such as Glow, Fashion and Elle Canada!

My hair was a bit out of control so I decided to ask Greg for help. I didn’t really have a clear picture in my mind of what I wanted. I left a lot of it up to Greg and did he surprise me!

Well, take a look at what was a 4 hour hair makeover:

Step #1: apply the colour (Greg mixed three different colours to get the one I have)

Step #2: apply highlights

Step #3: wash & condition

Step #5: treatment & gossip magazines

Step #6: cut

Step #7: blow dry

What a difference!

I love my new look. It’s so light and bouncy yet long.

Thank you, Greg!

Danier Fall Winter 2010 Collection Preview

What blew me away the most at the Danier Fall preview were the ladies accessories. The quality of the design has drastically improved from what you’d usually see at Danier. This year it’s all about pairing up different textures of leather with the latest trends in handbag design: ruching, pleating, worn-out edges, knots/twists, studs, nickel finishes…

This cross body studded drawstring bag was my favourite of all, I can’t wait until Fall to get my hands on one of these ($149)! Most of the merchandise below will be available at Danier stores in August and September this year.

note the "coin" studs. the stud has evolved :) - $149

Gloomy fall weather does not mean you have to wear gloomy clothes. This year Danier’s bringing back their best selling cross body bag in 7 different colours:

the cross body (messenger) style is definitely sticking around for another season

Their new scarves are all 100% wool, and the prices range from $39 to $49.

The two-tone messenger (below, $129) is really gorgeous as well, something I could also see myself wearing. I love a bag with heavy hardware and exposed zippers.

Notice the little fingerless Ugg-like gloves (I know Danier ppl will hate me for calling them that, lol). They’re coming up with a whole array of these babies, in suede and leather.

Knots, pretty scarves and foldable minis…

I bet this little studded cross body bag will be one of their new bestsellers. Again, notice how the studs have become “quiter”, we’ll be seeing more of a disk/coin shape trend for fall. $149

$149

Menswear

Danier’s classic men’s jackets have gotten a mini facelift this season. You’ll be seeing some cute details, such as leather covered studs (my fave and pictured below), lots of zippers, exposed stitching, cable-knit detachable scarves, rugged textures… They’re also introducing wool coats with leather trims.

men's leather jacket - $399

This photo doesn’t really do the jacket justice… It’s your classic quilted jacket, except it’s made of soft leather. The flash made it look shiny, but it’s quite matte actually. $499

Love the colour of this bag,  and the worn our edges really give it character. $249

And no, Danier did not pay me to write this review :) I was honestly surprised with how much the brand has evolved, and happy to see that they’re targeting young audience.

My New Necklace & Street Style

I bought this Swarovski crystals necklace at yesterday’s Soos Rocks event. It was only $30!

It took me a while to decide what to get. It came down to this necklace and a gold charm bracelet – I still can’t stop thinking about it.

These beautiful accessories are designed by Jane Dallin and Bryn Nihill. I met Bryn at the store, and she said that she’s been reading Shopsterium! That made my day :)

Lauren Conrad

(on a side note, the shirt I’m wearing is a Roxy version of Fluxus burnout pocket tee)

While shopping, I spotted a stylish girl in the store. Of course I took a picture:

My next stop was Fluevog. Yup, I got a new pair of Oxfords :)
I’ll post some pics tomorrow!

Quiksilver & Roxy Fall/Winter 2010 Preview

As mentioned on my Facebook page, Julio and Dag of DL Styling invited me to the Roxy & Quiksilver FW preview. Thanks guys!

These are some of the main trends to watch out for the upcoming season:

  • cropped tees, tees with breast pockets
  • tail back shirts and jackets
  • dropped arm hole
  • exposed zippers and distressed look

lookbook

Both Roxy and Quiksilver ladies’ lines have matured up a bit, targeting a 19yr old girl who’s transitioning from high school to college. You won’t see huge Roxy logos all over their shirts anymore. This season they’ve opted for a more sophisticated smaller logo usually located at the bottom hem of the shirt.

Quiksilver is also introducing a limited edition men’s collection, which sells at a higher price point.  With fabrics like organic cotton and cashmere, you won’t find it hard to justify the prices :)

Dag‘s modeling a black wool/poly blend winter coat which retails for $330.
“It’s great because it won’t wrinkle. You can easily pack it in a suitcase for travel” -Dag

My favourite Quiksilver pieces

vest, $108

silk floral print top, $85

Roxy/Quicksilver rep modeling her favourite Quiksilver jacket

green military jacket, $129

Roxy jacket

cropped sleeve Roxy jacket, $48

Handbags

Roxy handbags are all made of poly materials and prices range from $40-$60.

This year you’ll see less totes and more of satchel/messenger type bags.

Silver Falls Vintage on Ossington

Silver Falls boutique at 15 Ossington Ave in Toronto offers women’s vintage clothing and accessories. Check out their blog, they post photos of new items as they come in.

I dropped in a few days ago and found some cute pieces. Unfortunately, they weren’t in my size, but otherwise I would have totally snatched that perfect little trench coat… Which, I guess, is good news for you since it’s still in the store (I hope!)

Trench coat, $38 | Green knit jacket, $60

Floral print dress, $34

Guest Post – Lululemon Athletica Review

My name is Allison Maxwell and I am 26 years old. My most favorite thing to do in this life is run. I started over 3 years ago and have so far completed several 10 KM races, two half marathons, relay races and one triathlon. I am currently working towards my first full marathon. I also weight train at the gym 4-5 times/week.

Staying in shape and being healthy is very important to me – this is why having the proper apparel is essential to achieving my personal fitness and health goals. Lululemon combines practicality, quality and comfort with the bonus of style. Their various lines of athletic wear provide the functionality required for various types of low impact to high impact physical activity.

Top: Stride Jacket II   $108
This jacket hugs your body in all the rights places but is still loose fitting. It is a longer length so can be worn with tights. It also has thumb holes that keep the sleeves down and hands warm, as well as a zipper garage to keep your chin and neck warm.

Bottoms: Grove Pants   $108
These are reversible! These bottoms are your all-around anything pants. Great for lounging around the house or working out. They have a wide waist band and sit higher on the waist. They have a waist band pocket for small items such as keys and money. I have had mine for almost 2 years now and they fit and look just as good as they did the day I bought them. Can be purchased in a variety waist band colours.

.

Bottoms: Run – Empower Crops II  $86
These are my most recent Lulu purchase. What I like the most is no more chafing during those long distance runs! These are also great for cycling. They are extremely comfortable – my favorite pair of Lulu Lemon bottoms yet!
Some other pros:
•    Secure pocket for cards, keys & sport snacks
•    Mesh behind the knees for extra ventilation
•    A calf length running crop to support your muscles and reduce bounce
•    7 colour schemes to choose from

Tank Top: Running Tank  $52
(now discontinued but is very similar to the Athletic Deep V Tank II) This tank has lots of support (built in bra) but can be layered with your own sports bra for additional support.

Headgear: Twisted Headband  $12
It is the perfect width so it doesn’t fall off your head while running. Great for people with bangs because it holds them all back without any fly-aways.

.

Top: Swift Tank $52

This top has a zipper pocket in the front so you can hold money and keys. Cross straps in the back provide maximum support and breathability and is great for long distance running or high impact sports.

Bottom: Run – Jog Skirt   $54

This skirt is very cute but do not be fooled – it has concealed shorts underneath that  provide all the functional properties of running shorts and are quite functional. This skirt is great for short runs! I don’t do any long distance running in this skirt as the shorts underneath are not long enough to reduce chafing. There is a mesh pocket for holding cards and keys. The skirt also wicks away sweat and has quick dry fabric.

.

Top: Remix Lulu Hoodie $98

This hoodie is very comfortable and warm. Great for outdoor walks and hiking. There is a built in zipper garage to keep your neck and chin warm. Not so much ideal for intense work-outs.

Bottoms: Groove Crop II $86

These bottoms are reversible! Great for running, going for hikes and just lounging around. They are also chaif resistant and provide a great range of movement.

.

Bottoms: Run – Speed Short   $52

These shorts are ultra-light and perfect for working out and short distance running as they are only chafe resistant. They have a zipper pocket in the back for storing money and keys.

Top: $52

This tank is very light weight and great for the hot summer months. It is body skimming and perfect to wear over a full support bra. It is made with elastic jersey material that provides for flexible movement. Wicks away sweat.

Thanks Allison!
