Silver Falls Vintage on Ossington

Silver Falls boutique at 15 Ossington Ave in Toronto offers women’s vintage clothing and accessories. Check out their blog, they post photos of new items as they come in.

I dropped in a few days ago and found some cute pieces. Unfortunately, they weren’t in my size, but otherwise I would have totally snatched that perfect little trench coat… Which, I guess, is good news for you since it’s still in the store (I hope!)

Trench coat, $38 | Green knit jacket, $60

Floral print dress, $34

Guest Post – Lululemon Athletica Review

My name is Allison Maxwell and I am 26 years old. My most favorite thing to do in this life is run. I started over 3 years ago and have so far completed several 10 KM races, two half marathons, relay races and one triathlon. I am currently working towards my first full marathon. I also weight train at the gym 4-5 times/week.

Staying in shape and being healthy is very important to me – this is why having the proper apparel is essential to achieving my personal fitness and health goals. Lululemon combines practicality, quality and comfort with the bonus of style. Their various lines of athletic wear provide the functionality required for various types of low impact to high impact physical activity.

Top: Stride Jacket II   $108
This jacket hugs your body in all the rights places but is still loose fitting. It is a longer length so can be worn with tights. It also has thumb holes that keep the sleeves down and hands warm, as well as a zipper garage to keep your chin and neck warm.

Bottoms: Grove Pants   $108
These are reversible! These bottoms are your all-around anything pants. Great for lounging around the house or working out. They have a wide waist band and sit higher on the waist. They have a waist band pocket for small items such as keys and money. I have had mine for almost 2 years now and they fit and look just as good as they did the day I bought them. Can be purchased in a variety waist band colours.

.

Bottoms: Run – Empower Crops II  $86
These are my most recent Lulu purchase. What I like the most is no more chafing during those long distance runs! These are also great for cycling. They are extremely comfortable – my favorite pair of Lulu Lemon bottoms yet!
Some other pros:
•    Secure pocket for cards, keys & sport snacks
•    Mesh behind the knees for extra ventilation
•    A calf length running crop to support your muscles and reduce bounce
•    7 colour schemes to choose from

Tank Top: Running Tank  $52
(now discontinued but is very similar to the Athletic Deep V Tank II) This tank has lots of support (built in bra) but can be layered with your own sports bra for additional support.

Headgear: Twisted Headband  $12
It is the perfect width so it doesn’t fall off your head while running. Great for people with bangs because it holds them all back without any fly-aways.

.

Top: Swift Tank $52

This top has a zipper pocket in the front so you can hold money and keys. Cross straps in the back provide maximum support and breathability and is great for long distance running or high impact sports.

Bottom: Run – Jog Skirt   $54

This skirt is very cute but do not be fooled – it has concealed shorts underneath that  provide all the functional properties of running shorts and are quite functional. This skirt is great for short runs! I don’t do any long distance running in this skirt as the shorts underneath are not long enough to reduce chafing. There is a mesh pocket for holding cards and keys. The skirt also wicks away sweat and has quick dry fabric.

.

Top: Remix Lulu Hoodie $98

This hoodie is very comfortable and warm. Great for outdoor walks and hiking. There is a built in zipper garage to keep your neck and chin warm. Not so much ideal for intense work-outs.

Bottoms: Groove Crop II $86

These bottoms are reversible! Great for running, going for hikes and just lounging around. They are also chaif resistant and provide a great range of movement.

.

Bottoms: Run – Speed Short   $52

These shorts are ultra-light and perfect for working out and short distance running as they are only chafe resistant. They have a zipper pocket in the back for storing money and keys.

Top: $52

This tank is very light weight and great for the hot summer months. It is body skimming and perfect to wear over a full support bra. It is made with elastic jersey material that provides for flexible movement. Wicks away sweat.

Thanks Allison!

Meet My Hairstylist

David, master stylist at Salon Prive,is my current hair stylist. Before I met David, I was switching between salons in Toronto never satisfied with the end result.

I’ve finally found a stylist who understands my requests and knows how to work my hair to give me the results that flatter my face. I also liked how bluntly honest he was when we first met, telling me that my hair had no style. What a shame for someone who has a style blog!

David is originally from France, where he worked as a stylist for a television station. He moved to Toronto four years ago and opened his first salon here at 67 Elm Street.

You’ll never see him advertising anywhere – all of his customers are referrals.

That's Jojo in my lap - the salon pet. The cutest dog in the world!

I described the style I wanted, and got the exact result

My hair is fine and breaks easily. Considering all things I’ve done to it, from DIY bleaching to DIY haircuts, I’m surprised I have any hair left at all.

David has been working on reviving my hair. He’s promised to visibly eliminate my current flyaway-hair problem within a few months.

He’s also taught me how to properly blow-dry my hair. You’d think someone my age would know that by now, but I was doing it all wrong!

During my appointment last week, I told David about my blog. He liked it and offered to give my readers a discount.

Show this coupon to receive  25% off your first visit. (click to open in a new window)

So give David a call at 416-585-7938 and schedule an appointment today.

Thank you David!

Street Style Spotlight: Annie

Meet Annie Bao

I was shopping at the Eaton Centre when I ran into Annie in front of Zara. I’m glad I stopped her. It turns out she’s one of the hottest jewelry designers in Toronto. Check out Annie’s L’amour Couture facebook page here.

Her designs are gorgeous. I was shocked by the affordable price range: most items are between $30 and $50!

.

And, as if designing jewellry wasn’t cool enough, Annie is also a stylist. You’ll find her at  numerous photo shoots across the country. Having done professional modeling herself, photo shoots are definitely her expertise.

Annie likes to shop at Winners, Zara, H&M, and Urban Outfitters.

When it comes to her personal style, she adjusts her look based on the season.

During the winter she likes to wear edgy pieces, leggings, tights, embellishments…

In the summertime she’ll opt for flowey items, creating a soft look with dresses and high heels.

Annie designed that ring!

an Aldo necklace, one of Annie's favourite purchases

Thank you Annie, it was lovely meeting you!

Estée Lauder Makeover Time Machine

I was really excited about the Estée Lauder makeover session I had scheduled at Holt Renfrew on Bloor. The complimentary makeup session was to be followed by a professional photoshoot. The final makeover photo could then be used on social networking sites.

Stephanie, Estee Lauder makeup artist

During the makeover session, Stephanie wonderfully explained all the benefits of the products she was using, and patiently answered my many questions.

I couldn’t wait to see the results!

Feb 4th, 2020?

voilà?

Well, they photoshopped this one, I wish I had the original photograph as well…

I was surprised with the final result. The harsh eye liner made me look tired, and I definitely wasn’t – it was 11:30am.  I also found the orange lipstick unflattering against my skin tone. I felt it made me look 10 years older.

What do you think, is this Facebook-profile worthy?

.

P.S. Have I received your Celebrity Style Steal photo yet? Don’t forget to email it to me by Sunday!

Yorkville Shopping with my Bestie

This weekend my friend Roxi and I spent a nice relaxing day shopping and eating sushi in Yorkville. As always, I was bargain hunting, and did she help me find some amazing deals!

Our first stop was L’Elegante, a vintage store at 132 Cumberland St.

Their shoe collection was impressive and most of them looked brand new.

Christian Louboutin needs no introduction
these babies were $186.75

.

Manolo Blahnik $149.25

.

Roxi tried on this really cute dress-coat.
Pink Martini $180

.

…and she walked out in her new Tory Burch rain boots, $180

.

Our next stop was Accessity at 136 Cumberland St.

Here’s what we found there:

Isn’t this vest amazing? $59

.

Voila tights $22.95

.

I was about to leave the store, but Roxi yelled out: OMG it’s the Carrie Bradshaw belt.
As it turns out, this studded leather belt was made in Canada by this company called
Brave Beltworks.
Now you can steal Carrie’s look for $155.

So next time you’re in Yorkville, make sure to check out Accessity and L’Elegante!

.

ps.

My favourite shoe store, Browns shoes, has created this special “free shipping” promo code for Shopsterium:

shoeshopper

It is valid from January 25th to February 8th, on orders over $50.

Happy Shopping!

The Secret Room at The Bay

Have you heard of The Room?

First time I decided to go to The Room about a month ago, I had to ask several HBC employees in their cosmetics department before someone could tell me what level The Room is on.

So next time you’re at The Bay on Yonge and Queen (Eaton Centre), make sure you go up to the 3rd floor and check out The Room.

The_Room_The_Bay*

You’ll see many high-fashion names among some Canadian designers:

  • John Galliano
  • Moschino
  • Akris
  • Lida Baday
  • Emanuel Ungaro
  • Sonia Rykiel
  • Josh Goot
  • Christopher Kane
  • Boss
  • Be&D
  • Ralph Lauren Black Label
  • Proenza Schouler
  • Elie Tahari
  • Wayne Clark  – remember I took his photo for my StreetStyle post?

*

Jason Wu
Lemon Jacket – $1355
Silk Dress – $2395

*

*

*

Barbara Bui Trench Coat – $2700

Emanuel Ungaro Dress – $2795

*

*

*

Wish I could afford this outfit, it was made to be worn by me :(

St Regis Necklace  – $995

Carriere Jacket – $2120

Ferre Ruffled Blouse – $1432

*

Even though everything in The Room is waaaay out of my budget, I still enjoyed browsing through the collection. Nice to see The Bay with a fashionable facelift.
