Holt Renfrew Pop-up and Items Under $100

With my “no jeans for a month” diet ending yesterday,
I’m wasting no time as I’m making another public commitment:
I’ve decided to coin the term fashionable latte effect :) The rules are pretty simple:Â just substitute your caffeine treat for another, more fashionable one. Here’s the math:
Price of a single designer latte $3.50.
On average, I drink 5 lattes a week.
That approximately adds up to $910 per year.
At the end of the year I could use that money towards purchasing one of my three favourite handbags of all time:
.
Meet Lauren, a 19 year old girl who loves everything fashion and beauty.
This makeup guru serves style tips via her youtube channel:
youtube.com/user/laurendouglas8.
Today, Lauren will be showing you how to steal Angelina Jolie’s signature cat-eye look.
Enjoy!
Eyeshadow:
For lots of great quality eyeshadow without a huge price tag, Coastal Scents 88 palettes are a great buy. (I’m using the original 88 eyeshadow palette in this video.)
Foundation:
I almost never buy the same foundation twice as I like trying different brands. At the moment, I’m using Revlon Colorstay and Covergirl Clean mixed together to get a more accurate match for my skintone. In the past, I really liked Covergirl TRUblend liquid foundation.
Mascara:
I really like L’oreal Voluminous and Lancome Definicils. Both mascaras do a good job of lengthening my lashes.
Blush:
I don’t have a favourite brand for blush, I just buy colours that I like. At the moment, I’m really liking Bobbi Brown‘s blush in Baby Violet and Covergirl‘s blush in Classic Pink.

Meet Vanja, a biochemistry student with a passion for makeup.
I’ve always admired her talent and creativity. Her makeup always looks professional and flawless, and I’ve yet to learn her secret.
Hope you enjoy this exclusive smokey eye tutorial!
Mascara
Covergirl Eyelights for green eyes. It’s actually really good, doesn’t flake, defines and lengthens, and its cheap – for everyday. Benefit Badgal is perfect as a more going-out type of mascara.
Lipgloss
Sexy Mother Pucker in clear by Soap & Glory - it’s plumping and stays on all day! I really like the Bourjois lipglosses as well.
Foundation
In the winter I use Vichy Normaderm liquid foundation, and Purminerals 4 in 1 in the summer. It’s awesome, has SPF, great coverage, and feels really light on.
Blush
By faaaaar Smashbox! I love their bronzers/blushes.
Lipstick
Mac are definitely the best, like the one I used in the video… and they have awesome colours.
Eyeshadow
One of my favourites ever are the Lise Watier loose powder eyeshadows – you can use them as a loose powder or mix them with their Metamorphix and use it as a liquid eyeliner; it really intensifies the colour, too.
New year, new decade, new dreams… and New Year’s Resolutions!
I came up with a blog post schedule and I’ll try my best to stick to it in 2010. I might skip a post or two during exams or around my research paper deadline, but I think those are valid excuses :)

Tuesday: Street Style – I’ll take photos of stylish people and share them with you.

I wanted to have more control over the look and feel of my blog, so I’ve spent some time over the weekend migrating my blog from Blogspot to WordPress with private hosting from BlueHost. Expect more blog-style changes coming soon.
I followed MamaBlogga’s tutorial. It worked without a glitch.

Beauty Tricks and Tips
I use baby oil and cotton pads to remove my make-up. It’s a fairly inexpensive alternative to some of the beauty counter makeup remover solutions, and works just as well.
To make my manicure last longer, I usually apply a second top coat layer 24 hours after the initial colour application. This way my mani lasts exactly a week. Mind you, I do keep my nails trimmed pretty short, so that also lengthens the no-chip period.
Don’t forget to protect your nails with a natural base coat as well.
Another shower-tip: never tie wet hair in a bun or a pony tail. Your hair will break and you’ll end up with unruly flyaways.
To avoid bacteria build-up, I wash my makeup brushes once a week. I use regular hand soap, and lay the brushes flat to dry.
I keep my closets and drawers smelling fresh by wrapping lavender branches into a gauze and placing them in between the clothes/towels. I had hard time finding dried lavender downtown Toronto, so I ended up buying some on ebay. I’ve done it a few times already, you can order a huge bag for quite cheap!
I’d love to hear some of your beauty tips.
It could be anything – from a home made mask to hair curling techniques.
